The unusual handle is a piece of spalted Tamarind
wood that came from a tree felled by a hurricane in
the Florida Keys several years ago. (This wood is
hard to get because the Tamarind Tree is protected
by the DNR and is not permitted to be cut down.)

Fancy Southwest Style Ebony Ringwork at A, B, C, D, and E. Extremely Rare Tamarind Wood segmented Handle (wrapless) Wide Bacote band at butt section. Brown Phenolic Joint collar and butt cap. This is absolutely a highly sought after "COLLECTIBLE" cue from Paul Mottey. It is a very RARE box cue made
of Maple and Snakewood. This cue was featured in the 2nd Edition of the Blue Book of Pool Cues on the photo page of Mottey cues. The forearm is highly figured Birdseye Maple with two large box windows of Snakewood and four small box windows of Snakewood surrounded by six Propellers of Snakewood. The Butt Sleeve is Snakewood with two large windows of Birdseye Maple and Four small windows of Birdseye Maple and two inlaid Propellers of Birdseye Maple. Brown phenolic Joint collar. Rings are of Birdseye Maple shaped like an "S" into a Snakewood band at A, B, C, D, and E. Brown Lizard Leather Wrap. 5/16" x 14 Joint Pin Length 58" Weight 19.4 oz. Both shafts have Ivory ferrules and Mori Tips. Current value for this cue is over $4000.00 Custom Joint Protectors included. As far as I know, Paul does not make cues any more.
